Our Local Picks from the 2024 Bloom Festival

From 21 September to 20 October 2024, the Bloom Festival returns to the Great Southern, celebrating the spring treasures of our region. Immerse yourself in the natural spectacle as vibrant fields of wildflowers come into bloom, with over fifty events scheduled to celebrate spring and “everything that blooms”.

Here, we have shared our top picks of the festival program within an easy drive of Denmark - if you are planning to visit the Great Southern and surrounds this spring, read on to begin planning your itinerary.

Guided Wildflower Walk - Mt Trio

About 75 minutes drive north-east of the Singlefile Cellar Door, via Mount Barker, lies Mount Trio, one of the popular hiking trails in the Stirling Range National Park. Departing from the Mt Trio Bush Camp & Caravan Park 10 minutes further north, start your day with a guided wildflower walk to spot some of the 150 varieties of orchids that bloom in the area each spring. Your experienced guide will share their local knowledge with you during an easy 90 minute return bushwalk. Afterwards, you are perfectly placed to explore more of the Stirling Range National Park, or head south into the Porongurup Range or the town of Mount Barker.

Discover Mount Barker

Less well known than neighbouring Albany and Denmark, Mount Barker is a charming regional town with great significance to our winemaking industry as the location of the earliest established vineyards in the Great Southern wine region. On this half day walking tour, learn about the history of the town, its culture and its people, finishing with a selection of local produce and premium wines in the private tasting room at historic Plantagenet Winery.

Frankland Wildflower Walks

Frankland River is often neglected in a Great Southern holiday itinerary, but during wildflower season, there are thousands of blooming beautiful reasons to visit. With multiple wildflower walks available in the area to enjoy free of charge and at your own pace, visit the Frankland River Community Resource Centre for a visitor guide and some local advice, and then choose your own wildflower spotting adventure. Wildflowers can be found near the township, or further afield surrounding nearby Lake Poorrarecup or Lake Unicup. If you are traveling with children, stop at the newly constructed nature playground and BMX track near the town centre. Make a day of it and visit some of the lovely cellar doors in the region, such as Alkoomi and Frankland Estate.

Explore the whole Bloom Festival program here, with events spanning all nine shires in the Great Southern Treasures region, from Frankland River and Kojonup, all the way to Bremer Bay and the Fitzgerald River National Park. If you should visit the area this spring, we hope to welcome you to our Singlefile Cellar Door in Denmark, open each day from 11am to 5pm.
