Singlefile Named Ray Jordan's 'Producer of the Year' for 2024

“Singlefile moves quickly to join state's best” - Ray Jordan.

Singlefile Wines are delighted to announce we have been named Producer of the Year in Ray Jordan's 2024 WA Wine Review.

This annual digital and print publication showcases the best in Western Australian wine and we are humbled to be recognised amongst the many exceptional producers in the state.

In addition to being named Producer of the Year, three of our wines were awarded Runners Up in their wine varietal category, including our 2022 Singlefile 'The Pamela' Porongurup Riesling, our 2020 Singlefile 'The Vivienne' Denmark Chardonnay and our 2022 Singlefile Single Vineyard Frankland River Grenache.

Ray Jordan, a seasoned columnist with over 30 years experience covering the Australian wine industry, acknowledged Singlefile's growth from its modest start-up days, to being one of the state’s finest producers.

“From the time the Snowden and Corbett families bought an existing vineyard in 2007, they have pursued their quest for excellence with a single-minded and very clear approach,” said Ray.

“In the past 12 months the wines have taken yet another leap forward, building on a succession of excellent vintages and the creation of new and interesting variety and stylistic expressions from fruit sourced from their own and other Great Southern locations.”

Singlefile’s Managing Director and Co-Founder, Patrick Corbett, said the accolade is a reflection of our teams’ commitment to the pursuit of excellence.

“We’re fortunate to have a very dedicated and talented team behind us, some of whom have been with us since the very beginning. This award is a well-deserved recognition of their efforts, as much as it is an achievement for Singlefile.

“When one considers the talented people, exceptional producers, and the highly awarded wines emanating from Western Australia, it is very humbling for Ray to single us out as his Producer of the Year for 2024,” said Patrick.

Ray Jordan drew particular attention to these seven wines in the launch of his Wine Review. Read his full comments below:

2022 Singlefile Family Reserve Chardonnay

96 points
I expected this to be a mighty good chardonnay from this season, and true to form it has not disappointed. Engaging aromas of lemon zest and grapefruit with a subtle roasted cashew addition. It’s delicate but there is power, a hallmark of the best chardonnays. One of the best under this label.

2022 Singlefile Single Vineyard Frankland River Shiraz

96 points
This is a vibrant and brilliant shiraz capturing the essence of this fruit in a very good year. Perfumed aromas with lively cherry and red currant overlaying a deeper plummy character. The palate is exquisitely structured with a silky fine frame supporting medium-bodied fruit that cascades to a very long finish.

2019 Singlefile 'The Philip Adrian' Cabernet Sauvignon

97 points
Deep, dark berry nuances throughout then a slightly leafy blackcurrant and ironstone rust emerges. The tannins are firm and fine and the oak well managed. A wine of great cabernet structural integrity with so much cellaring time. Leave it a few years before trying it, because like all the 2019s I have tasted they benefit with a little extra time in the bottle.

2022 Singlefile 'The Pamela' Porongurup Riesling

95 points
Runner Up Best Riesling
The fruit for this excellent riesling comes from the Misery Hill Vineyard in the Porongurup Range. Strikes immediately with a lime zest and sherbet-like aroma merged with a slightly chalky limestone dust. The palate is tense and tightly framed but there is texture. A trace of sea spray lifts from the nose to complete a very good wine.

2021 Singlefile Single Vineyard Frankland River Cabernet Sauvignon

95 points
The single vineyard is the Riversdale in Frankland. It is one of the best around. This is a most impressive cabernet, chock full of deep dark fruits with a leafy cabernet varietal overlay. The palate reveals a chalky ferruginous mix with the firm support of fine-grained oak and gravelly tannins taking it to a very long finish. Dry chalky finish completes an excellent wine.

2022 Singlefile Single Vineyard Mount Barker Pinot Noir

95 points
Exotic complex aroma of dark cherry and a little liquor plum note. There’s a trace of damp earthy character weaving into the nose. The palate is tightly wound with a firm core of fine bony tannins and well-weighted oak supporting the fruit. The palate is dry and spicy with a subtle dried herb character. Structured and poised, this is serious pinot noir.

2021 Singlefile Small Batch Denmark Pinot Noir

96 points
This is only made in tiny volumes. In fact, just two barrels of this one. It’s different take on pinot noir for Singlefile. Adopting a minimal intervention approach using Dijon clones off the home block in Denmark. Bursting with red fruit on the nose with deeper darker secrets behind. The palate has a smooth textured feel with supple fruit flavours balanced against steel minerally thread. There’s a slightly rustic gamey character which speaks pinot noir. Poised and perfectly integrated.

Being recognised by Ray Jordan as WA’s leading wine producer has capped off an extraordinary year for the winery. Most recently, Singlefile was a gold medal winner at the Perth Airport WA Tourism Awards and our 2021 Singlefile Single Vineyard Frankland River Cabernet Sauvignon was named in James Halliday’s Top 100 Wines of 2023.

In May, our 2022 Singlefile Great Southern Rosé was one of only twenty wines awarded a gold medal at the 2023 International Rosé Championship in Poland, alongside entries from France, Italy, Hungary and Germany.

We look forward to another year of showcasing the excellence and diversity of the Great Southern region through our wines.
