Results of 2025 Halliday Wine Companion Announced: Three Singlefile Wines Named as Top-Rated Varietal Examples
We are delighted to share the results of the Wine Companion Awards, held last week on the 5th August and coinciding with the release of the 2025 Halliday Wine Companion.
We were thrilled to receive our results and to maintain our Top 5 Red Star winery rating, reserved for wineries who have demonstrated a track record of excellence and maintained a Halliday 5 Star rating for over a decade. This year, our Limited Release collection proved its pedigree with the upcoming releases of 'The Philip Adrian' Cabernet Sauvignon and 'The Vivienne' Chardonnay both awarded 97 points as well as Halliday's value rosette, which signifies a wine considered to represent special value for money in the context of its rating.
2021 Limited Release 'The Vivienne' Denmark Chardonnay (upcoming vintage)
97 points, value rosette, named in Top Rated Chardonnays of the 2025 Wine Companion
"The fruit for this luscious estate-vineyard chardonnay came from three picks, end of February to 25 March, each parcel chilled and pressed direct to new and used French barriques for fermentation and 10 months maturation, including some malolactic fermentation, without obscuring the javelin of acidity that holds the citrus/honey/fig trifecta together." James Halliday
2020 Limited Release 'The Philip Adrian' Frankland River Cabernet Sauvignon (soon to be released)
97 points, value rosette, named in Top Rated Cabernets of the 2025 Wine Companion
"The driest winter and spring for 100 years reduced yields by 50–60%. From the mature Riversdale vineyard: cold soaked for two days, then four weeks on skins; matured in French barriques (40% new) for 15 months. It's resoundingly rich and luscious, the colour splendidly deep, cedar and cigar box threaded through the ripe cassis fruit. Who knows how long this wine will live?" James Halliday
2021 Single Vineyard Frankland River Cabernet Sauvignon (previous vintage)
96 points, value rosette, named in Top Rated Cabernets of the 2025 Wine Companion
"Like the Single Vineyard Shiraz, this is sourced from the large Riversdale vineyard. Picked mid-April, cold-soaked three days, then an extended maceration; post ferment 14 days on skins; matured in French barriques (30% new, balance one to two years old). A lot of high quality wine at this price; everything in balance. Cassis and a dressing of fine tannins." James Halliday
2022 Single Vineyard Frankland River Shiraz (previous vintage)
95 points, value rosette
"Maintains its reputation. Spent 13 days on skins and matured for 11 months in French barriques. The bright, deep crimson hue leads into a scented bouquet of black and red fruits, spice and pepper, all things nice. The succulent, medium-bodied palate continues the theme." James Halliday
2023 Limited Release 'The Pamela' Porongurup Riesling
95 points, value rosette
"Sourced from the 27-year-old Misery Hill vineyard, the vintage late and drawn out, but ended very well. Porongurup and riesling are joined at the hip, the wines tight and lime-accented." James Halliday
